  • this thanksgiving, i went ahead and made dinner for the rentals and a couple of their friends.

well lets take a step back.

so the yelpers and a small army of volunteers put together another fund raiser for halloween. we had a fried chicken competition, live date auction, a bbq…. yeah a grand old time by all…… and in the end, what was the result, besides way too many incriminating photos of half naked people and drunken madness, we raised over $6,000 for the sf food bank…. and it couldnt have come at a better time. a DAY before another organizer and myself were gonna go drop off the money, a reporter from sfgate.com wrote that the sf food bank was desperately short on turkeys. they needed about 400 more to meet their MINIMUM for the amounts of turkey they needed to give out. the article stated each turkey could be purchased for about $15 each…..

6000/15= 400. yes.. the drunks that saved thanksgiving. of course the people at the food bank was very happy….. more so, because in response to the article, the good folks of bay area donated $20,000 in less than a day…. so i guess our 6,000 didnt actually save thanksgiving, but yeah, bite me.

the day of thanksgiving, a bunch of us volunteered at the food bank, helping to prepare food to be distributed. a few hours by a few people…. the people that benefitted from our LITTLE sacrifice? come on no brainer. and sf residents, you can pay of parking and traffic violations with your volunteer work.

so im having lunch with a bunch of yelpers that volunteered at the food bank on turkey day. i get a call.

what!?!??!? more guests? and theyre coming at 4!?!?!??!?!? but mom, its 1pm!!!!!!?!?!?

i grabbed a couple buddies and we went at it. roasted turkey, mashed taters, cumin lamb chops, arugula spinach salad, antipasto plate…… it was definitely a show.

now why do i mention all this….. it might be a bit late coming, but i just might jump into something ive wanted to do but for some reason or another, have talked myself out of it.

    yes

im working out the details. i might be wearing a white hat very soon. grey stone application deadline for 08 is dec 15th, i probably wont make that deadline, but early fall semester, holy crap. i better be chasing a dream.

if not, day job better be more productive. somethings gotta change.

living your life, just spinning wheels aint a life. its just being.

  • i found my conversation with someone last night to be pretty funny. we came to the same conclusion, in very different ways.

i find it interesting that we as humans have this inane need to be better, but we falter, then proceed back to where we started, then try to advance before we fall again.

this lady i was talking to last night told me about her weekend. nice and easy, went out of town, ate some good food, slowed things down, caught up on sleep…… perfect for what she needed. realized the hectic life of a corporate slaves was killing her from the insides out. what she needed was to recenter, regroup and charge forward. get some exercise in, eat better, have more time for herself.

though i only spent a very short time in vegas over the weekend, as usual, things were fun, but i swear its getting pretty old for me. no seriously, my life has been “vegas” for the last 15 odd years.

yeah dood, i drank soooo much, i threw up in the bathroom, hooked up with some random chick i met at tao…. dood her buddy was all can i come too, she was hot. i did lines off her ass…. sooooo coool man. woohoo vegas!!!!

i call that a tuesday night.

ehhh yeah. so sad now, id rather go see a show than go clubbing with people born in the fucking 90s.

i digress. so yeah after another vegas trip, i find myself having the need to refocus my energy, redefine my existence…… crazy shit, i ran around my neighborhood for some cardio, did some situps, pushups, stationery bike for more cardio, and lifted some weights.

(this was all throughout the night)

in between all this, i get a call from a buddy.

hey, man this drinking every night again is killing me. ive gained so much weight, i feel like shit…etcetc i need to get my life back.

hey man i told you we were gonna get to this stage in life, its expected after… you know what happens, now you gonna sober up, clean up, and get back right on track…. thats how it goes, remember?

and it keeps pushing on and on and on.

such a nice day, gonna play hookie soon, get my little workout in then go for some pleasant evening beers. nice.

  • i really have neglected this xanga of mines. ehhh.

soooooo the past few weeks have been interesting. some ups, some downs, turned 30 and interestingly enough, life is getting better. go figure. HA.

i initially wanted to make turning 30 a nice quiet private thing, but last minute, i decided till let people know it was the big three oh. it turned into a week of dinners, bars and some wow, i cant believe im still alive moments. seriously, how the hell am i still alive? a big thanks to everyone that made 30 an interesting one.

even after the chaos of last week, ive gotten some stuff straightened out in head finally. it took long enough but hey, everyday is a learned experience. as long as one foot is moving in front of the other, its a good day. of course thats from a stagnant pov and an argument can be made that you can stray and take the long route or even the wrong route, but ive had enough distractions in my life to know whats the general direction i should be heading. shiny keys wont work this time around.

this should get very interesting very quickly.

oh shit, some nice lady imed me yesterday, hey you like bobby lee right? nice. going to the sunday show in san jo. marin headlands moto ride on saturday, bobby lee on sunday? nice. great weekend ahead.

i gotta admit, life is pretty damn good.

everyday youre alive, youre healthy and not in jail, its a good day.

  • sideso the little bbq thing was pretty interesting. timing wise, i guess having my 30th day and having some fun with cool folks and doing some good for the commuinty aint bad.

there was WAY too much food. 20lbs of halibut, countless rack of ribs, all sorts of skewers, a messican grill, and indian grill, sides sides sides sides. some folks showed up at 6am to start smoking their ribs, another homie showed up in his truck, smokers full on smoking.

“hey might as well bbq while driving right?

the food was incredible. i guess thats what happens when you gather up a shitload of “food experts”.

we had about five grills, two smokers, a generator, a tv with ps2 and gh2……

     grillz

just one grill…. yes, thats a whole smoked leg of lamb. that was one of the best tasting things ive ever tasted.

    smokes

this smoker was filled with chickens. unbelievable.

    meats

there were literally tables and tables of meats and sides and meats.

it was a lot of fun. good folks. GREAT food and we raised $750 for the food bank. some nameless yelper decided to donate $250 to make an nice even $1,000. added with the matching, thats $9,000 worth of food. nice.

    asians

    yeah, kinda explains the afternoon.

so why a picture of a watermelon?
